I’m Shashi Sourabh, Ph.D., a physicist and technical leader working at the intersection of advanced instrumentation, semiconductor technology, modeling and simulation, software development, data-driven engineering, and applied R&D.
At PDF Solutions, I work on advanced e-beam inspection and Voltage Contrast Imaging (VCI) technologies supporting Intel’s leading-edge semiconductor manufacturing. My work spans inspection methodology and recipe development, complex system troubleshooting, module qualification, experimental design, and close collaboration across customer, applications, engineering, and product/R&D teams.
Beyond applications engineering, I develop Python-based software and automation tools for engineering workflows and large-scale data analysis, apply Monte Carlo modeling to understand electron-beam–material interactions, and contribute to ML/CNN-based defect-classification workflows. My role has also expanded into technical leadership, training, mentoring, and knowledge transfer, including developing structured training programs for engineers and FAEs and translating complex field problems into scalable technical solutions.
I earned my Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Oklahoma, where I conducted research at the Center for Quantum Research and Technology (CQRT). My research focused on carrier dynamics, hot-carrier relaxation, electron–phonon interactions, semiconductor quantum systems, and light–matter interactions in metal-halide perovskites and InAs quantum wells.
My experimental and computational work included photoluminescence, transmission spectroscopy, ultrafast transient absorption, Raman spectroscopy, electrical characterization, optical microcavities, strong-coupling phenomena, and mathematical modeling.
During my Ph.D., I also contributed to NASA-funded research on advanced photovoltaic materials and collaborated with researchers at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). These collaborations included visits to national laboratories for specialized experimental measurements and characterization, providing valuable experience working across academic, government, and multidisciplinary research environments.
Across both research and industry, I am most interested in problems that require connecting fundamental physics with computation, instrumentation, experimentation, and real-world engineering systems.
My experience and interests span semiconductors, photonics, quantum technologies, advanced imaging and sensing, scientific instrumentation, computational modeling, machine learning, and emerging computing platforms.
I am particularly drawn to technically challenging environments where fundamental understanding can be translated into better experiments, better systems, new capabilities, and practical technologies.
This website highlights some of my research, publications, technical projects, software development, and ongoing interests. If your work intersects with these areas, I’m always glad to connect and exchange ideas.
